I’ve used this shampoo for a few years now and love it. My hair always feels really clean and the smell is subtle and nice. But this new shape is awkward, I preferred the old shape. This one doesn’t fit in the tin I have, and it’s more difficult to use—the square was easy to hold in one hand while applying product with the other, while with this shape I feel like it’s going to go flying out of my grip while I’m using it. I appreciate that it’s a good size but would prefer they go back to the old shape for the next batch.
EEthique9 minutes agoHi Laurel, Thanks for the feedback on the shape. We've chosen to change the shapes of our bars with both ergonomics and aesthetics in mind. We trialled all the new shapes with people that had specific health conditions that can affect hand functionality, such as Arthritis, Peripheral Neuropathy in the hands, and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. This helped us better understand the usability challenges faced by individuals with varying dexterity. Additionally, we included top purchasers of our shampoo and conditioner bars. These participants are some of our most loyal customers, and their feedback provided valuable insights into the practical usability and preferences of the shapes. The results of this testing helped guide the design changes, ensuring the new shapes are more user-friendly for everyone, including those with specific physical challenges. At this point we will keep the new shape as it was preferred and considered easier to use. I hope this explains the changes!

This has been the best product for my poor dandruffy scalp. I absolutely love it and I've been using it for years.
I'm devastated it doesn't fit in the storage containers anymore. There's so much behind the scenes that I don't know, but changing the shape so that a previous product is unusable does not feel like the Ethique I know. I've read the reasons for the change and they are solutions to problems that never existed! I don't need a round surface to apply shampoo, nor did I ever have a problem distinguishing between the products. Having a container with a lid to store my bars was one of my favorite parts of these products! It helped them dry out and made travelling with them so easy!
If you're new here and have no emotional attachment to the shape of your shampoo bar, I highly recommend it!
If you're like me and came for your yearly restock of Ethique products, just expect some disappointment. I'll let you know how long it takes to wear down the corners so I can fit in my storage container, as was meant to be....

Husband used to love it for his seborrheic dermatitis, but something has changed and it doesn't work as well now. Still ok, but doesn't clear it up, just stops it from spreading.
They say the formula hasn't changed, so I'm not sure why it's not as effective.

I tried this product because sometimes I’ll sometimes get a flakey scalp/dandruff. My dermatologist recommended your typical dandruff brand name shampoo, but I felt deterred because I don’t like using plastic bottles. I love Ethique’s shampoo and conditioner for curly hair, so I decided to give this one a try. After several washes and switching it out with the curl shampoo every other time (for 3-4 weeks give or take; I only wash 2x a week), my scalp was no longer flakey! I could switch back to the curl shampoo and save this bar for nourishing my scalp as needed in the future. It’s been a few months since using it (I haven’t needed to use it since the flakes disappeared) and the dandruffy flakes have not returned! Highly recommend.
