Nothing says “self-care” quite like a pampering face mask, as it encourages you to sit down, put your feet up and relax - even if only for a few short moments. DIY face masks are also a great way to reduce food waste whilst giving your skin a little spa-day treat from the comfort of your own home.
In need of some inspiration? Here is an easy DIY face mask recipe with ingredients you likely already have in your pantry or fridge. 😊
It’s not quite a banoffee pie, but this yummy face mask is good enough to eat.
Loaded with nutrients and minerals, bananas are a wonderful addition to a moisturizing face mask. Yoghurt contains lactic acid, which is a gentle exfoliator that helps dissolve the ‘glue’ that keeps dead skin cells packed together for soft, smooth skin. Oatmeal is renowned for its soothing properties and cocoa powder is packed with antioxidants – plus, it smells just divine.
This mask is a soothing, nourishing treat for dry winter skin – not to mention a fantastic way to use up over-ripe bananas (there’s only so much banana bread my friends, family and neighbors are willing to help me finish!)
Ingredients:
- 1 banana
- 1-2 teaspoons of dairy-free yogurt (I use coconut)
- 3-4 teaspoons of oatmeal (finely ground is best)
- 1 teaspoon of cocoa powder
Method:
- In a bowl, mash the banana.
- Stir in the yogurt, cocoa powder and oatmeal to form a well-combined paste.
- Apply to skin, leave on for 10-20 minutes, then rinse and pat dry.
- Don’t forget to follow with SPF if used during the day!
It’s entirely normal for your skin’s needs to change with the seasons, and the beauty of DIY face masks is how easily customisable they are. The above are guidelines, so do feel free to customize them as you see fit!
As with any product being used on the sensitive skin of the face, we always recommend patch testing your mask before applying it all over. Have fun with the process and enjoy your DIY creation. 😊
