Diatomaceous earth is a naturally occurring sediment that consists of the fossilised skeletons of microscopic algae known as diatoms. Diatoms are tiny microorganisms with a hard cell wall that's made primarily of a the compound silica (also known as silicon dioxide). Silica is one of the most abundant compounds in the natural world and can be found in everything from sand and rocks to plants and animals.
Diatomaceous earth contains a very high concentration of silica, giving it unique properties such as a high porosity and low density, whilst being very absorbent. It is an ideal material for our Storage Trays as a result, making them lightweight, strong, and able to draw water away from your bars to help keep them nice and dry.
