In my opinion, Ethique is the best quality shampoo bar available. I was a little hesitant to try the clarifying bar as my hair is actually on the dry side, and I thought it might be too drying. I decided to give it a try for the hot, humid summer days here in Florida. I absolutely love it! It does not dry or strip my hair at all, but it cleanses well. It has ginseng, a very beneficial herb, and I love the scent! I would love a companion conditioner bar as well!

Product is still good (previously a St Clements user) but the shape is quite annoying. Doesn't fit as well in a block doc, but worse, it didnt last as long as usual - gone in a month. The moon ends snapped off when the bar got smaller/thiner. Wash my hair about 4x a week.

You’re right that the shape is new, but aside from the addition of ginseng, the formulation itself hasn’t changed. This bar is still the softest in our shampoo range, which means it's more prone to wear — especially in high-humidity environments like we've seen recently across NZ.
Even with good storage, some bars may need a little extra help drying between uses. A dry bar stays harder and lasts longer, so we really appreciate you flagging this — and we’ve shared your feedback with our team.

I was so excited to use this bar and I wanted to love it, but I was so disappointed with the actual results…
Pros: Smells wonderful, lathers great, and I love that it has plastic free packaging!
Cons: After using the bar, I was left with a waxy residue all over my hair. I continued using the bar a few more times to see if it would go away, but the problem persisted and I was left with a mess in my hair that I’m now having a difficult time removing. It has left my hair with the appearance of looking greasy (which I thought the “clarifying” part was aimed at reducing).

This bar is designed to break down oil and product build-up, so it may lather less on the first wash if there’s a lot for the formula to work through. A second shampoo (with less product) usually produces more lather, since there’s less oil left to cling to — it’s a small trick that often helps deliver a better clean.
If your hair felt waxy or coated afterwards, that may be due to a bit too much product — our bars are super concentrated, so a little goes a long way. Using more than needed can make rinsing harder and leave behind residue, especially if the bar is rubbed along the full hair length rather than focused at the scalp.

I use products sometimes in my hair and this gets my hair back to feeling great, removing the oil and any build up from products.

I took the hair quiz and my results were to get the clarifying shampoo and the smoothing conditioner. I didn’t really like the idea of combining two kinds but decided to try it. My hair is wavy, frizzy and gets oily if I don’t wash it every day. The mixture does seem to help a little bit but I don’t like how it makes my hair feel. It’s dryer and kind of sticky like there’s a residue on my hair. I still feel like it needs to be washed every day. I don’t know if combining the products works better for my hair than just using the matching types of each so it’s hard to know which I like better. I really like how they both smell though. Overall, I do like these but I don’t think they’re right for my hair. I also ordered the everyday shine one so I’ll try that next. I’m really hoping to find the right kind for me so I do plan to order again, I’ll just have to figure out which ones to try!
