Solid shampoo for curly hair

Professor Curl

Specially formulated in line with curl care principles, our brand-new Professor Curl solid shampoo is pH balanced and gently cleanses without drying curls out. Made with a hydrating blend of ingredients; shea butter, betaine (from beets) and cocoa butter, Professor Curl will help promote soft hair and defined curls.

You won’t find any sulfates, silicones, waxes or drying alcohols. Instead, you’ve got a solid shampoo that is equivalent to three bottles of salon-quality goodness to gently cleanse without drying your curls out.

A bar of Professor Curl saves three plastic bottles from landfill and 2750ml of water from being wasted.

What is in Professor Curl?

Shea butter

Packed with triglycerides, vitamins and essential fatty acids. Shea butter is a smoothing, rich emollient that nourishes and hydrates hair without feeling heavy or greasy.

Sodium cocoyl isethionate

A gentle, coconut-derived surfactant (makes things foam), which removes dirt and oil, without leaving hair dry and squeaky. It yields lots of creamy bubbles to cleanse and refresh hair in preparation for the rest of your routine.

Betaine

A sugar derived from beets which has been proven to prevent irritation, soften hair and skin and provide hydration by drawing water to the skin.

Solid conditioner & co-wash for curly hair

Curliosity

The hero product of our curly range, Curliosity, is our new solid conditioner and co-wash that is specially formulated in line with curl care principles. It’s carefully crafted with a luxurious blend of hydrating ingredients; shea butter, jojoba and cocoa butter for soft hair and defined curls.

Prefer a co-wash? Curliosity has that covered too. Containing nourishing castor oil, this solid conditioner gently cleanses without drying, making it the superhero addition to the Ethique range.

Curliosity can be used as a solid conditioner, co-wash and leave in conditioner. You won’t find any silicones, waxes or drying alcohols in this clever little bar. Gently cleanses and conditions without drying your curls out or weighing them down.

A bar of Curliosity saves an incredible five plastic bottles from landfill and 5050ml of water from being wasted.

What is in Curliosity?

Shea butter

Packed with triglycerides, vitamins and essential fatty acids. Shea butter is a smoothing, rich emollient that nourishes and hydrates hair without feeling heavy or greasy.

Behentrimonium methosulfate

A conditioning superstar that helps smooth the hair shaft, reduce static and leave hair feeling soft and looking shiny. It's water soluble and won't coat hair strands the way silicones do - it simply washes off with water on your next wash day.

Jojoba esters

A supremely smoothing, lightweight emollient that moisturises and promotes healthy, hydrated skin and hair.

What our trialists have to say

Our trialists (a couple hundred) got first dibs and have tried & tested our plastic-free Professor Curl shampoo and Curliosity solid conditioner and co-wash to review how they perform and here's a small snippet of what they had to say!

Letty - Coily *

Amazing products that leave my hair and scalp feeling thoroughly clean, fresh and moisturised. The shampoo smells amazing and produces a great lather whilst the conditioner provides the slip and leaves my curls tangle free

Nia - Coily *

Curliosity hydrates like a dream (pro-tip, if your curls tend to dry out easily like mine, let Curliosity sit for a few minutes and watch it work wonders!). I’ve also noticed decreased frizz and consistent hydration between wash days.

Julia - Curly *

With these bars, my hair doesn’t dry out and I don’t use nearly as much product as I would using my normal shampoo and conditioner. I absolutely love the results that I get in my hair, definitely an 100/10 product line!!

How to store your bars

Our highly concentrated bars are just waiting for you to add water! But when they’re not in use, here are the best ways to store them in your bathroom so you can get the most out of them. (pro tip: keep dry between uses)

On tray or dish

We’re always on the hunt for more cute ways to store our bars - you can hunt for these at second hand stores to score a bargain. Old coasters work perfectly here too.

Shower shelf/racks

Shower storage that lets the air circulate is the perfect home for your beauty bars - like bamboo racks, loofah sponge beds, soap racks, or if you’re on-the-go, a breathable cotton travel bag.

Curly Range FAQs

All curl types (wavy, curly, coily) have tried and tested our Professor Curl solid shampoo and Curliosity solid conditioner & co-wash bar.

Yes! Whether you’re a fan of air drying, plopping, scrunching, diffusing or pineappling, our brand-new range will work for you.

It contains no silicones, waxes, sulfates or drying alcohols.

Yes, we highly recommend using a foaming shampoo (such as Professor Curl) once every 3-4 weeks to prevent the risk of fungal infections.

All alcohols are drying right? Nope! There is no crunchy hair around here. The only alcohol we use are fatty alcohols which are super hydrating. They contribute glide and gloss to the hair shaft, encourage softness and help smooth down your hair cuticles.

Nope – not a sulfate! BTMS is the magic ingredient in our conditioners. It has a positive charge, which makes it bind to negatively charged hair and neutralise the electrical charge which can cause flyaways.  It hence helps to smooth the hair cuticle without weighing it down or causing build-up like silicones can – because it’s water soluble, it simply washes away the next time you shampoo. It’s a palm-free emulsifier, a wonderful conditioning agent and one of our favourite ingredients which you can learn more about here.Â
