Curl-Defining Shampoo Bar: Easy as 1 - 2- 3: Wet hair and bar. Massage bar directly onto scalp and work into a lather with hands. Rinse completely, following with your Ethique conditioner.

Curl-Defining Conditioner Bar: Post-shampoo, glide bar onto wet hair from mid-lengths to ends. Distribute evenly. Rinse completely.

Keep dry and away from direct water between uses. Store with ample airflow and drainage for best results. Check out our storage options!

Change of product

I have been using the curl defining bar for 2 years. They have recently changed the formula and shape. Very impressed with the ergonomics of the shape, however very disappointed that it does not fit in the previous bar holders. They were an environmental investment that are now rendered useless, disappointing from a company who prides itself on minimising packaging waste. I also find the shampoo does not lather like the previous product.

We’re really glad you like the new shape ergonomically, but we’re sorry to hear it’s created a mismatch with the previous bar holders. We completely understand how frustrating that is—especially when you’ve invested in storage to reduce waste. We’re currently working on updated travel and in-shower containers to better suit the new bar shapes, and we’ve shared your feedback with the team.

As for the lather, the Curl-Defining bar is sulfate-free and has always been a low-lather formula, designed to cleanse gently while supporting curly and textured hair. The new version includes a small upgrade—FiberHance™, a bond multiplier to help strengthen and protect hair—but otherwise remains close to the original formulation.

Love the new formula!

I have always loved ethique's curl-defining shampoo, so I was a little nervous when the packaging and formulas went through a small change. I have been so pleasantly surprised - This shampoo lathers even better than the last, making it easier to fully wash my hair. It hydrates my curls, and it smells divine!

Love the bar, don't love the new, smaller size

I've been using the curly conditioner bar for about two years now, both as a conditioner and as a co-wash. I like the product, but I'm frustrated by the repackaging and by the reduction in size. My old bar lasted about 7 months. The new bar is significantly smaller and has only lasted 3 months. It's frustrating to have a product drop so much in size while staying at the same price point, particularly something I use so often. For curly hair, it would almost be better to make the conditioner the large bar and the shampoo the small bar. I don't need such a huge bar of shampoo, when I only shampoo my hair once per week.

You’re absolutely right that the new bar is smaller than the original Curliosity. We made this change for two key reasons:
First, the original bar was sized like a shampoo because it was previously positioned as both a conditioner and co-wash. With our latest update, we've focused on creating a dedicated hydrating, nourishing conditioner for curls and coils, rather than a hybrid product.
Second, having both the shampoo and conditioner in the same shape caused a lot of confusion in-shower—so we’ve now aligned all of our conditioners to the same shape and size for easier identification and use.

We know this size shift can be frustrating—especially for those who use conditioner more frequently than shampoo—and we’ve passed your feedback along to our product team. Your insights are incredibly helpful as we continue to grow and refine our curly hair offerings. 💚

In Love

I’m so happy that I found the Ethique Professor Curl range! I first bought it because I thought it would be useful for travel but it works so well that I use it for everyday use also. My hair is slightly curly/ringletty and this keeps it soft, shiny and no frizz! I also don’t feel the need to wash and condition my hair every day like I did with ordinary shampoo.

Smells so good!

I have been using these for a couple of weeks and I'm really loving them! It leaves my hair feeling clean but not stripped of moisture and I do notice a positive difference in the form of my waves/curls when I use it.
